Bpeace in Afghanistan

Bpeace is in Kabul !

We are officially here and in Internet hell.

Laila, Kamela, Najib and a large group of Bpeace greeters met us at the airport. So wonderful to see Laila's smile on the other side of the passport control booth. Najib and Steve bonded over a traditional Afghan greeting.

Spent 2 hours searching for Hotel Heetal in rush hour traffic. Finally located at top of hill behind some serious security. Accomodations include heat, intermittent Internet access, pingpong and fooseball tables, 2 treadmills, free weights. Bathrooms have left Kate nostalgic for the Intercon.

Just returned from Lebanese dinner and refreshments with Gabriella Ghidoni, an Italian designer and consultant to Bpeace's product development efforts. Yes we are at work already!

But it's been a long day, so off to bed. 1st meeting at 7:30am.

What supplies did Steve stock up on in the Dubai airport? Did all go well with the UN flight? BTW, 2 inches of snow on Long Island...better here than in Kabul.

What is the purpose of this Bpeace mission to Kabul?
To accelerate progress with the women in our three-year mentoring program!
This mission will focus on three key activities:
1. One on one work sessions with each Associate to assess their business development progress, identify quick wins and develop actions plans to address problems and opportunities, working closely with US mentors to define next six months of work effort and focus
2. Business training with the Bpeace Associates and over 100 members of the Afghanistan Women's Business Federation and will include developing winning business plans, building a successful retail business, effective business marketing and developing a professional success map
3. Obtaining business funding and financing furthering our networks and relationships with potential donors for Bpeace projects and identfying and linking lenders for the women's emerging businesses

Who is paying for this Bpeace mission?
We are, out of our pockets. Bpeace members pay for their own travel on missions, thereby ensuring that donor funds raised go directly into programs for our women in the field.
